Getting help when you need it

Setting up and maintaining a website involves various activities like design, scripting, SEO, customer support, domaining etc. There are a category of webmasters who prefer to do all these activities by themselves instead of outsourcing to others. I confess I am one of those. As webmasters, we all know the importance of content based sites. We also know how difficult it could be to present, manage and add new content to our site. This is the reason that CMS systems inludinng blogging systems have become widely popular. But blogging and portal software’s cannot be used to ideally represent all types of data. Maintaining Sessions in PHP

Sessions are important when you need to store user specific data when the user is navigating from page to page. For example, think of a shopping cart or a secured page. Each time that the use clicks on a link and navigates to a different page, you do not want the shopping cart to empty itself. In these cases, the user session needs to be preserved.

PHP maintains sessions by default. This is done by appending a PHPSESSID variable to all urls where it is not explicitly set. This session id is usually a non human understand-able string which gets passed from page to page. Though session id’s are a nice way to maintain sessions, it may be to your disadvantage when you do not need them. PHPSESSID’s make your web page urls ungainly and some search engines are known not to spider them very well. This is an excellent site that publishes tutorials on various web development topics. From HTML, dreamweaver, CSS, Adsense, PayPal to how to blog with Blogger, all are covered. The tutorials are quite detailed and will be of use to both the novice programmer as well as the advanced and experienced webmaster. There are two categories of content available - courses and tutorials. Tutorials deal with particular short topics like how to create a hover effect or how to identify genuine PayPal buttons. On the other hand courses are full fledged training modules where all the nitty gritties of the topics are covered including the ‘niche’ terms and in some cases includes a project work to give you the all important real work experience.
