Marketing & Advertising, Monetize No Comments »

There are thousands of directories and only some of them are successful. The mark of success is not necessarily having thousands of listings but on how many ‘humans’ use the directory to find what they are looking for. Obviously when people use the website and benefit from it the webmaster also profits from it. And we have a successful directory website.

This brings us to the question what type of directory can be useful to ‘real humans’. It has to be ones that have information and links to sites that are what the people are looking for.  General directories usually do not fit the bill because they are too vast to be really targetted. Exceptions though are the real pioneers of the directory segment. But for new entrants to this business, it is important to build a niche directory. A niche directory will necessarily have better targetted sites listed and will be more useful to ‘real humans’. Read the rest of this entry »

As a blogger you are usually looking for different ways to monetize your website. Some of the most common ways to do this are through contextual ads, like the Adsense program by Google and the sale of text links on the blog. While contextual ads pay you a certain variable amount per ad clicked by the user, text links usually pay a fixed amount per fixed time slot.

Another way that is fast catching up with bloggers and advertisers alike is the concept of paid blog posts. This means that advertisers pay the blogger to blog about their products. How much each advertiser wants to pay depends on the quality of the blog and the traffic it receives. What better monetizing method could be there than to make money blogging! Direct advertising on your site

More and more webmasters are opting to sell a part or the full advertising inventory directly. This means that they solicit (directly or indirectly) the advertisers, finalise the terms and conditions of the deal, implement the advertisement and handle the billing and complaints, if any. This benefits both the publisher as well as the advertiser since they save on the cost that would otherwise have paid to the intermediary. Also with direct contact between the advertiser and publisher the needs of each other are understood in a better way. Also a number of webmasters have used this model to sell other services from their online store/site. Read the rest of this entry »
