3 Reasons Why Honesty Is The Best Policy
Marketing & Advertising September 11th, 2007In today’s online world of flashy websites and big promises it can be very tempting to join what feel like the rest of the world in exaggerating your product’s results or the results of an affiliate product in order to impress a prospective customer. The problem is that the policy of being up front with your customer and telling them the whole truth about your product has become a bit old hat. Fortunately you can take advantage of that to great benefit!
As a consumer online it can be more than just a little overwhelming. It seems that the internet is filled with far more advertising then we are used to encountering on a day to day basis, the problem being that virtually all of this advertising is very over exaggerated.
After being online for a very little time it is easy to become very jaded and cynical about the claims being made all over the place. Not only that but so many of these outrageous claims are so over the top that they become completely transparent. It is very often for a consumer today to see right through any bogus advertising claims and know that they are being fed a bunch of false claims in order to make a sale.
Don’t do this. It is much more profitable for you to be very honest about your product to your customers. There are a few reasons for this and I’m going to share three of them with you now.
The first reason that honesty is the best policy is that you can happily maintain your integrity. Now, maybe this isn’t such a big deal for you but if it isn’t then it will be. It is much easier to work every day on a business venture when you have integrity since you can sleep with ease knowing that not one of your visitors is being misled.
The second reason that honesty is the best policy is that you no longer have to run the risk of your customer discovering that you are misleading them. This can harm you in a number of ways, not only that you lose the sale from the original customer but it is very likely that they will become very unhappy with you. This can be devastating for your business since they will likely report you if the exaggeration was big enough and will certainly tell anyone they know that you are untrustworthy, which is a terrible mark to wear.
And lastly, making sure to tell your customer about any potential drawback of your product and then explaining how you can make that drawback better or why it is irrelevant or even just admitting that it exists will endear your visitor towards you. What I mean is, making an admission of failure in your product (whether it be content or a more traditional info product) tells your visitor that you are a real person and makes you appear much more genuine which is a quality that visitors are looking for.
Despite that fact that we are bombarded every day with advertising, most of us really want to be sold to, we just don’t like being lied to and we don’t like being treated poorly. So, make sure that you treat your visitors with care and they will reward you with their repeated presence.
