Remote Application Support
Resources September 4th, 2007One of my friends runs a small business which among other products markets an ERP software. The company not only sells the software but also needs to install and provide first level support and training. He approached me with a problem common to businesses of his size: escalating support costs. The major component of his budget was spent on service visits and as salaries for his service personnal. Just to help him out I did a small search to identify how other companies from around the globe tackle this problem. Remote access of PC’s is the most common solution.
How this works is surprisingly simple. You are able to login to a remote PC and install and troubleshoot application on that system. This means that now my friend does not need to visit the customer’s place for each support call. He now stays at his office and logs into the PC with the issue and resolves them. The cost? It obviously varies with each company but the software from remotepc.com costs only $4.95 per month for one host. This works out to less than $60 per year, a savings of about 80% for my friend!
The RemotePC software can also be used to access email, data and pictures from anywhere. Also like some other softwares, this does not need any lengthy applet downloads before you can start accessing the PC.
Now I am waiting for a well deserved treat from my friend!
