In a previous example, we showed how power the web presented a collection of websites without the sites themselves becoming monotonous. In this very short story, we present another website which does an excellent job of portraying a collection of sites. This time though all these sites belong to a common niche - cooking recipes. The site we are going to look at is Agape Technologies.

The site features multiple cooking recipe sites with a brief introduction to each. Before we go into the pluses of the site, a minus. The only thing we were not comfortable was the domain name. Agape Technologies, especially the word ‘technologies’ for a recipe site somehow does not gel.

Coming to the positives of the website, it is again designed on the lines of power the web, with a neat clean design and links to the projects themselves. The uncluttered but colorful look adds a few points to the quality of the site. The site links to different categories of cooking recipe sites like Pasta Recipes, Cookie Recipes, Indian Recipes etc.

The benefit of presenting the portfolio or even the network of sites is multiple. One each of the participating sites benefiit from the link from the master site. The benefit is both in terms of traffic as well as PR and search engine ranking. The second is the ease of use for internet users looking for recipes. They are now presented with multiple quality options that could be useful. The result is a greater percentage of users bookmark this portfolio website. Thus this also results in a surge in traffic.

Having a collection of sites will allow you to create a site similar to Agape Technologies. Right? Not necessarily. Why don’t you think of a business model where you can present a set of websites to your consumers. The sites may be affiliate partners of yours. Basically what we are thinking aloud is a link directory site with a very small number of high quality hand picked websites. Would that be a viable business model? We would love to hear your thoughts on it.
